FAQs
What types of COVID-19 tests are Collection Sites providing?
- Rapid Antigen tests
- Rapid Antibody tests
- PCR tests (Gold Standard)
Medivolve’s Collection Sites locations are offering the above tests in bundles as a best practice for their patients.
Antigen tests (frequently referred to as a rapid tests) detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. Turnaround time for results is usually very quick, and in most cases, results can be reported within 15-20 minutes.
Rapid Antibody tests detect the presence of COVID-19 antibodies in your bloodstream. This is a rapid test done through a finger stick blood sample that can let you know if you’ve been infected with COVID-19 in the past.
PCR tests (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is considered the “gold standard” in SARS-CoV-2 detection. This test actually detects RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even those who have no symptoms. Turnaround time is longer, generally in the 2-3 day range but results can be in as little as 24 hours. When demand is high, results can take 3-5 business days.
If you are getting your testing for a specific purpose such as travel, please ensure you are selecting the proper test required by your airline, destination or other requiring organization. Certain travel destinations and airlines do not accept rapid-result testing.
How are samples collected?
Sample collection procedures vary by test type.
